More blue state madness from the Post:
Some wealthy defendants will do anything to stay out of jail – including offering to pay up to a million dollars for private security so they can remain under house arrest.
In rare and often sensational cases, rich suspects persuade a judge to let them avoid the clink through the trial process by offering to pay for private security to ensure their own home imprisonment.
When the process winds on, the final bill can hit seven figures. But that’s a drop in the bucket to the rich and desperate.
Take the notorious “Cruella” case on Long Island, where an affluent couple is charged with the enslavement of two Indonesian servants they allegedly brutalized.
In addition to posting $3.5 million bail, Virsha and Mahendar Sabhnani agreed to fork over major dollars – $5,000 a day – to the security company Stroz and Friedberg to ensure they don’t flee the country before trial.
The couple in the story above were holding two women as slaves for years in a swanky Long Island community. The wealthy couple is considered a flight risk, so should be locked away in holding like any other rapist or kidnapper. Instead they sit in their house plotting their escape from justice.
This is typical of New York, where the class warfare pretensions of the nouveau riche are at odds with the liberal culture which produces them. In a society where almost everything is OK, where supporting radical Islam is hip and trendy, where money can buy anything from drugs to slaves, the rich are given special treatment after being caught with slaves while their friends and neighbors decry the “Bush tax cuts” and our supposedly unfair capitalist system.
Disgusting.
