Good Work Obama: More People Shot to Death in Chicago This Summer Than in Iraq

This is what hope and change looks like:

CHICAGO (CBS) ― An estimated 123 people were shot and killed over the summer. That’s nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.

In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.

According to the Defense Department, 65 soldiers were killed in combat in Iraq. About the same number were killed in Afghanistan over that same period.

In the same time period, an estimated 245 people were shot and wounded in the city.

Wow. That’s some mighty fine community organizing that Obama must have done in Chi-town. Well played Senator. It is more dangerous in Chicago than in an active battlefront.

And before you lefties even start Chicago has some of the most draconian gun laws in the country and it is literally more dangerous than a war zone. Meanwhile in my new home of South Carolina I’m pretty sure there isn’t even a waiting period to buy a gun and it is literally the safest place I’ve ever lived.

In other words this is a case where more gun control would be moot so there must be some other factor that is driving this violence. Hmmm.

Could it be a corrupt liberal welfare state that has bred a parasitic class of sociopathic criminals with no motivation to change their circumstances? Nah. They just need more hope and change.

  1. Rob Taylor,

This is definitively something opponents of the Iraq war wouldn’t want you to know. Our Troops in Iraq are safer than civilians in a bad neighborhood in the middle of an American city. It could also have to do with the fact that they are soldiers and are experts in armed self defense. But still look at those numbers. Sure I wouldn’t want to be in the middle of a combats zone, even if I had all the combat training of one of our marines, but this show that this enemy is far less deadly than we have been led to believe. If it weren’t for their incredible religious fanaticism, most likely the Jihadists would have given up by now, or fled to fight America another day on another battle field. The Iraq war would already be over. We are beating the Islam-o-fascists despite the half heart ed support of the American people. From what I can tell, the Jihadists don’t have tanks or an air and we have unmanned drones, something that only twenty years ago would be found only in science fiction. Plus the Jihadists appear to have weapons in many cases at least that far behind ours.

  2. What about Iraqi security forces and civilians killed?

Oh wait, they’re muslims, they don’t count, right neocon?

  3. This is what happens with gun control being promoted. That was a major problem I had also with Rudy Guiliani whom also endorsed gun control like how Obama, and the Chicago political Left embrace it, the New York City political Left, also embrace it too.

If more lawful, trained citizens had guns, crime would go down. It’s only citizens whom are not trained, and have a violent pass that would misuse guns in general.

  4. Daniel:

They wouldn’t have been in Iraq. My point is simply that as an American you’re are more likely to be shot to death in Chicago than Iraq. If you wish to spin that fine but Chicago has, despite draconian gun laws , become as dangerous for Americans as Iraq and Obama and all the other corrupt political elites from there have done absolutely nothing to change that.

mah; You’re right on the money. I’ve lived in NYC a college town in CT and South Carolina and NYC is by far more prone to have gun violence than the states with more libertarian laws. It’s the same with my native NJ. Disarming the public doesn’t make them safe it makes them targets.

  5. I also support those taking self-defense courses as an alternative to the use of guns. A broken bone would cripple someone who is willing to use a gun for criminal purposes. I don’t understand why those whom support gun control do not encourage those to look at alternative ways of protecting themselves.

  6. All that “gun control” is why you have so much gun violence in Chigaco, believe it or not. The criminals know that no law abiding citizens have guns, so they are not afraid to brandish weapons and shoot people. If the citizens were allowed to carry guns, which is the American way, then most thugs would be too scared to draw a gun, not knowing who might shoot them first.

  7. I have lived in SC my whole life, and when I got to basic training I was talking to some people from NY and I was shocked at what extent the gun control had extended to.

  8. Me and the Mrs. moved from NYC to SC and I was shocked (and pleasantly surprised) by how hassle free gun owning is here. And of course the crime rate is much lower than NYC.
