Bear spray is essential if you’re in danger of running into a bear, because unlike a gun the spray will most likely drive off the attacker, while a gun may make the dying animal charge you. In a SHTF situation you can’t afford to be mauled by a Ol’ Ephraim, but if you live in the suburbs or a rural area your chances of running into him are increasing:

Coyotes are apparently doing the same thing. I remember watching a video and uploading it on my blog awhile back. Coyotes are closely linked to dogs so they can be domesticated. They have better senses than dogs and are more useful than dogs from what I have heard.
I’m not sure if we could do the same for bears…would be nice if we did so they wouldn’t attack anyone.
