Kos himself is questioning why the Congressional Black Caucus would “get in bed” with Fox News. He goes on to claim that Fox News is lily white (unlike DailyKos I’m sure) and actively works against Black interests. His evidence: Sean Hannity criticizing Barack Obama’s choice of churches.
Obama apparently attends an Afrocentric church, which unbeknownst to Markos is a euphemism for warmed over Black nationalism and exclusionary politics. Markos also implies that being critical of one Black person is in fact working against Black interests. This is racist nonsense, pure and simple.
1) All Black folk don’t go to the same churches, and they often question each other’s religious preferences. I know this because most of my family is Black, and they often make statements about other folk’s churches that are similar to what Hannity said. Most Black folk I know wouldn’t go to a separatist church because, you know, they don’t hate White people. Black or White (or both, like Obama and me), the decision to attend a church that may preach separatism is a legitimate point of interest. And it isn’t against Black people’s interest unless you believe, like Kos apparently, that separatism is a good idea.
2) Like myself, Barack Obama is Biracial, not Black. There is indeed a difference, the key one being that many Blacks don’t consider Biracial people “really Black.” Unlike me, Obama isn’t proud enough of his heritage to make the distinction between Black and Biracial, which is the main reason I’ll never vote for him. Kos, or any White liberal, doesn’t get to decide who is or is not Black just so they have some ammunition with which to fire off charges of racism at other Whites they don’t like. This is exactly what Kos and his ilk are doing and it is offensive and racist.
3) White people don’t have a say in Black liberation. In this case a White man is telling Black people that they aren’t doing what is right for Black people, but if they listen to him they can do better. This is paternalistic racism at worse.
4) Barack Obama has had very different experiences even from other Biracial people, and comes from a very different environment from Black people in general. My great grandmother died in her nineties and her Mother was a slave. My family has lived in this country since the 1700s, first as slaves then as free people. Barack’s Father is from Africa. There are such vast differences between the African American experience and the African immigrant experience that the assumption, by Kos, that Blacks simply will embrace the son of an African immigrant and a White mother as their own is at best naive. At worst Kos felt it unnecessary to do even the minimal amount of research, because in his mind these differences don’t matter. To Kos, a Black guy’s a Black guy.
I could go on, but why bother. Kos is a hateful hack who dismisses truth in favor of his flavor of “truthiness” that keeps his flock of bitter freaks cawing and clicking his ad banners. And how could we expect more from a site which just a couple of days ago posted a diary featuring an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory. h/t LGF for that one.
He’ll keep peddling the hate, and the left will keep buying it. Here’s an example of how White “liberals” actually feel about Blacks:
I guess Kos is just playing to his base.
