Especially because the target of his comment was often maligned Conservative punching bag Tucker Carlson who rightfully objected to the “orgy of adulation” for Michael Jackson in the media. He was in fact taking the bi-partisan position with hysterical lefty Sunny Hostin on the now slightly more watchable Hannity show when Bob Beckel went ballistic and called Carlson’s position on child rape “homophobic.” Skip to around 2:27 to see the fur fly:

But wait a second. Carlson was talking about child rape – about grown men sexually exploiting children. By calling disgust with child rape “homophobia” Bob Beckel is literally saying there is no difference between adults having homosexual relationships and men molesting boys. Would Beckel claim that being opposed to adult men molesting little girls was anti-heterosexual? Of course not.
Beckel clearly exposed that in his mind there is a link between what consenting adults do and they vilest of child exploitation yet all the people who have for years attacked Carlson for his “homophobia” (and I’m frankly not familiar enough with him to know if he hates gays or not, but I do know that like me he supports gay marriage) are staying silent at this outrageous linking of the worst form of degeneracy with mainstream, law abiding gays.
There is no link between homosexuality and molesting little boys just as there is no link between heterosexuality and molesting little girls or raping women. There is no cause and effect relationship between the two. Although I am on record as stating that “pedophilia” is not an orientation, all thinking people can understand that having a homosexual orientation makes a person no more likely to molest children than being heterosexual. To compare gays to child rapists is not just a slander of gays, it minimizes the essentially sadistic motivation that drives perverts to rape children.
Now here’s a list of people who should have said this before I did:

But that can’t be true, because it would imply many of the biggest voices in gay activism and feminism were nothing more than leftist front groups paid by well endowed foundations to herd homosexuals into voting booths….
There is, if one is to go solely by statistics (which do not take into account the question of who is in the closet), actually a link between putative ‘heterosexuality’ and the molestation of little boys. This almost certainly misleading, because someone with a sexual attraction to little boys is almost definitely not ‘straight’, but it goes to show just how silly it is to call a diatribe against child abuse ‘homophobic.’ If one adds to that the fact that Michael Jackson himself, whether child abuser or just the demented Peter Pan figure many of his friends have claimed, was also putatively straight then it just makes Bob Beckel look stupider.
It is worth noting, I don’t watch Fox News, both out of personal preference and the fact that I currently have cut cable tv out of my budget to save money for more important necessities. So I was unaware of this stupidity. Had I seen it, I probably would have said something.
Speculating about Beckel’s own putative homophobia, however, is of dubious value. He may be homophobic. He may just be that stupid and ignorant. Neither homophobia or stupidity are confined to any one political party: witness Sam Nunn and Zell Miller.
As for why the gay rights crowd hasn’t fired shots at Beckel, it is likely for the same reason the majority of ‘Tammy Bruce Republicans’ prefer to attack misogynistic Democrats. It’s politics. One attacks one enemies and defends or ignores one’s friends or allies, because that’s how politics works. It’s why Anne Coulter, Michelle Malkin, or Sarah Palin can somehow be cast as bold crusaders against misogyny when they are essentially shills for the insular male country club set. That’s politics.
I’ve always tried to call it like I see it, whether attacking liberal Democrats for whining about Obama not being liberal enough when they failed to vote for any of the more liberal candidates in the Democratic primary or attacking homophobic Republicans for pushing their own brand of country club PC in which THEY are the only people in the world with a right not to be offended. Plenty of politics on all sides is just gruesome.
I’ve never been a fan of Hannity… the fact is that I haven’t paid him much attention in the last few years (just couldn’t stomach his show, to be perfectly honest.)
But I have to agree with everyone on that panel except for Beckel. I’ll have to do a search on Beckel to find out who the heck he is, exactly, but I already don’t like him. What an ignorant ass!
I’m disgusted by his remarks on behalf of the thousands of gays who are undoubtedly offended by this, but even more so on behalf of all the victims and survivors of child sexual abuse.
Maybe Bob aught to consider that there are only two kinds of people who would make such a comparison… I wonder, if he got into a car accident tomorrow would they find a “NAMBLA” membership card in his wallet? Just curious….

I have been receiving a steady stream of comments and hate mail from these people on various sites. People really are excusing the molestation because they like his music. If this doesn’t convince people we’re at the end of civilization, nothing will.
By the way Beckel is just some Democratic party talking head. He’s held some positions, but he basically just sits around claiming Republicans are evil for a living.
I think this is just downright stupid. Excusing child molestation should be a Republican or Democrat issue, nor a Left or Right issue. But it’s the Left that is making it the issue.
Excusing child molestation should NEVER be an issue no matter where you stand.
