A blog called Radical Muslim has been gathering a list of blogs (and bloggers) which are considered by the author to be offensive to Islam. He calls this list his fatwa worthy list of blogs in a clear attempt to threaten and terrorize others. Though he claims that his fatwa means that these sites should be “peacefully” shut down, he knows fully well the terrible implications the term fatwa carries for westerners in the wake of the infamous Salman Rushdie fatwa.

Which is of course the point, to scare counter jihad activists into silence. One of his newest targets isVelvethammer’s Ironic Surrealism, an excellent blog by a patriotic woman which I think is one of the best political blogs on the net. Her fatwa was I assume issued after another Muslim claimed her site was full of “venom”, which I can assure you it is not. The authors evidence that Velvethammer is venomous is that she’s not excited to see Islam given special treatment in public schools.

To her credit Ironic Surrealism’s author isn’t intimidated. The point, however, is that Muslim radicals are becoming more and more aggressive in their attacks on free speech, and this fatwa, with the implied threat of violence, is evidence that there is a strain of Islam so militant that it cannot be reasoned with. This Muslim believes that a non-Muslim should not be able to speak freely, that Muslims should have the right to control the thoughts of others. This is Fascism in its most basic form, and is unacceptable.

All bloggers should stand by Velvethammer, and free speech. Just as Muslims issue fatwas, we should issue our own injunctions. I say we compile a list of Muslim blogs that support un-American (or in this case un-British) activities, then call their web service providers and have them “peacefully removed.” I say we show these fatwa issuers how it feels to see there names on a list of undesirables, of people who shouldn’t be allowed to speak their mind, of people who shouldn’t have the same rights as everyone else.

I say we issue our own fatwa on Muslims who seek to oppress non-Muslims, and see if they think there is no implied threat.
