 Complaints about a possible “fight club” at a Burlington business led to the arrest of a Mebane man on assault and underage piercing charges.
Burlington police began investigating Torture Chamber Tattoo after a 16-year-old boy from Snow Camp was injured on Jan. 23, according to a search warrant.
The boy, who was treated at Alamance Regional Medical Center and released the following day, told police he had been injured during an Ultimate Fighting Championship-style fight at the 260-C W. Davis St. business.
The fights involve a lot of kicking, punching and wrestling holds, said Burlington police Assistant Chief Greg Seel.
As part of the investigation, Burlington Police Sgt. M.J. Rascoe interviewed a friend of the teen who told them that he had heard about the fights through someone at his school. He also said the business owner, 27-year-old Lannie Wells Jones Jr., had told him he could arrange a fight for him.
The friend told police he received a call from Jones, whom he knew as “LJ,” on Jan. 23 to inform him that he had arranged a fight. The two friends went to the business, though only one was supposed to fight. When they arrived they were told that a fighter did not show up, so the two ended up fighting, the search warrant said.
According to the boys, “LJ” acted as the referee for the fights, the search warrant said. They also told police that the fights “are set up for spectators to pay $10 each and the winning fighter wins half of the admission fees.”

During a walk through of the business, Rascoe noticed that most of the rooms were empty, the warrant said. One of the rooms had “numerous large holes in the wall.” According to the warrant, Jones explained to the officer that he trains in mixed martial arts and that the holes were a result of his training.
The warrant also stated that the Alamance County Health Department had received “numerous complaints” about the business performing body piercings on minors without the knowledge of their parents and of “arranging and hosting illegal organized fights.”

I have to admit I was dumb enough to get a small tattoo at this place. I went with a friend because he was going to get one. I decided that I just wanted something very small and got an outline of a heart (which I have since covered because the guy working for him has no talent what so ever) Not to mention the entire time he did my tattoo he was making a sad attempt on hitting on me and telling me how he and his wife had an open relationship. He was too busy sounding like an idiot to focus on my tattoo. But I had an odd feeling about the entire place. I will say the tattoo areas were very sanitary but it was the rest of the place that gave me the creeps. I noticed the empty rooms. Also, I was there for about two hours and I saw high school kids in and out the whole time. And I know for a fact they were underage because I have a younger brother and I recognized them from his school. It doesn’t surprise me that he got busted for things like this. As for the case of the young girl and him piercing her nipples, her parents should press every charge possible. And for the fighting, someone could have been killed. This guy really does give a horrible name for the great tattoo shops out there.
