Another great video from The Nutnfancy Project, this one on the basics of using a baton. Of course I don’t think videos are the optimal way to train, but money and time constraints can make finding training difficult. So here are the basics:

Making Shotgun Slugs Out of Birdshot
Nice four part tutorial on re-manufacturing shotgun slugs out of birdshot, though the first two are the actual process and the last two range testing so i won’t post those. It’s a simple process that may seem like a waste of time at first but the benefits become obvious if you think about it for a second.
The shotgun’s strength is it’s versatility. One shotgun used for defense, hunting, and pest control simply by switching loads, something most rifles and handguns cannot do. Birdshot is what you will probably have the most of laying around, because unless you’re in the middle of Oakland when TEOTWAWKI comes most of your shooting should be opportunistic hunting and the elimination of critters who are coming for your food supply, like raccoons with a taste for your chickens. In 12ga buckshot is the preferred combat load but slugs are very effective on humans and large game or dangerous animals. In 20ga the slug is the best self-defense load simply because of availability – the 20ga is a deer caliber and there are many slugs lining the shelves of your local big box, but very little buckshot.
But slugs are expensive and when budgeting for an ammo hoard it’s more likely you will be stocking more of the various size birdshot than anything else, unless your post-SHTF plan is mayhem and rapine. This skill allows you to stock more of the birdshot you’ll be using for everyday survival with the option of making up slugs if things are getting hairy in the area you’re in. As the video itself points out you actually save up to 60 cents a round doing this which is a nice bonus. The trade off is that the homemade slug has less powder – and thus power -Â than commercial slugs. But that also means more manageable recoil with a slug that would still do plenty of damage.
The only slugs I don’t recommend are in .410. I love my .410 but spring for some of the buckshot loads if you’re going to use it for survival. .410 slugs are just too light.
What’s nice about this technique is that it uses minimal tools. A slug mold, cast iron lead dipper and Bernzomatic torch are all you really need to get started. At Amazon these things can be had for under $75 all together.
Part II:
Parts 3 and 4 are range tests which are interesting if you have the time.
Robert Rogers’ Rules for the Ranging Service: An Analysis
This excellent book is written by historical re-enactor Matt Wulff who is part of a “ranger” living history company. His in-depth analysis of the 28 Rules of Ranging issued by Captain Robert Rogers to his irregular troops during the French and India War gives insight into how lightly armed, highly mobile troops could survive in a warzone without external support.
Rogers’ Rangers are considered the precursor to the modern American Army’s Ranger regiments and the tactics outlined by Rogers are still viable today. Wulff not only gives each of the rules a thorough examination but illustrates their applications by using historical documents like journals and battlefield reports and even uses photos from modern re-enactments.
While a wonderful and informative text for the history buff, this book will also serve the small survivalist group well. For families or groups planning to bug out through potentially hostile terrain, or for small groups planning on defending a given area this discussion of old fashioned Ranger warfare, with an emphasis on primitive weapons and equipment, will help readers formulate the plans and logistics you’ll need to operate continuously with little hope for resupply aside from what your wits and hunting ability can gather. It will be especially helpful for those without military experience who will be in areas like the South West or near large cites where guerrilla warfare against armed gangs will become likely in even minor civil disruptions.
California Tuition Protesters Attempt to Murder Police Officers – A Lesson in Mob Tactics
Multiple officers were injured in “protests” by students and outside agitators over hikes in tuition proposed by the University of California’s Board of Regents.
From The Daily Nexus:
Three officers were injured while subduing angry protesters, according to UC San Francisco Chief of Police Pamela Roskowski. Chaos first erupted around 9:15 a.m., she said, when students outside the meeting pushed through metal barricades and charged a group of campus and city police officers, intent upon storming inside the meeting. One officer was hurt in the process as the barricades came down.
Officers administered the first round of paper spray minutes later and prevented protesters from entering the building, blocking all accesses with outstretched batons.
The next three or four hours then turned into a tense hold-out between police and protestors. Time after time, dozens of protestors linked arms together to charge the barricades, were pepper sprayed into submission by authorities, fell back in the lines to recover and were replaced by a fresh wave of dissidents.“Fifteen people were exposed to pepper spray in lieu of using a weapon,†Roskowski said. “The officers conducted themselves really well — they had been rushed, barricades were used to injure the officers, officers pepper-sprayed to defend themselves.â€
The so-called peaceful protesters goal was to storm a meeting of unarmed bureaucrats – at which point what? The crowd had been primed for violence by outside agitators (mostly communist and anarchist groups) and injured cops. The first lesson you need to learn is that if lefties start to protest you must do everything possible to not be in the area. Especially if you are in some way involved with the target of the protest. Cops barely controlled this crowd and in the coming months protests will get more violent. Continue reading
Anwar al-Awlaki Declares Open Season on Americans – What You Can Do
Our friends in the Religion of Peace are looking to bag their limits of Kafir this season so be careful out there. al-Awlaki is one of the most influential Jihadist clerics today so don’t be surprised when some new “isolated incidents” happen in the coming weeks.
From The Telegraph:
Anwar al-Awlaki said Americans are from the “party of devils” and so don’t require any special religious permission to kill.
In the 23-minute Arabic language message entitled “Make it known and clear to mankind,” al-Awlaki said it was “either them or us”. He also called all Arab and Yemeni leaders “corrupt” and said it was time for religious scholars to take charge.
“Kings, emirs, and presidents are not now qualified to lead the nation, or even a flock of sheep,” he said. “If the leaders are corrupt, the scholars have the responsibility to lead the nation.”
The video showed him wearing traditional Yemeni clothes with a dagger at his belt sitting behind a desk.
U.S. investigators say al-Awlaki’s sermons have been a key inspiration for a string of militants, including possibly the Pakistani man who tried to detonate a car bomb in Times Square this year.
He also had email contacts with the Army psychiatrist accused of shooting 13 people in Fort Hood, Texas.
They say that since he returned to Yemen in 2006, al-Awlaki has moved beyond inspiration to take a role as an active operative in al-Qaeda’s affiliate there.
On Friday, the al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed responsibility for sending bombs through the mail in packages addressed to the U.S. which was thwarted a week ago.
For those of you who, like me, won’t be wearing full tactical armor while going about your daily business you may want to invest in some soft slash and cut resistant clothing that can be hidden under your regular wear or can blend in as outer wear.
Racist serial stabber Elias Abuelazam shows us how many radicalized individuals may strike with easily available implements so if you can get away with motorcycle jackets they offer decent protection from slashing attacks. Some come with armor inserts for additional protection from impacts and beatings. If physical assaults by crowds are a concern (and if you live near a radicalized Mosque or college campus they are a concern) the old stand by of “decorating” your outer wear with screws or nails is not only a homage to 70s punk but an effective deterrent to grabs and other MMA style take downs which are popular with young people
A company called Draggin’ Jeans makes kevlar undershirts and pants as well as kevlar lined denim jackets that are designed to protect riders from “road rash” but will offer an additional light layer of protection from slashes and burns.
Wear your states allow it you may be able to get “bullet proof” vests for very reasonable prices – but will you wear it every day? And most concealable vests leave much you your body exposed. Your best bet with firearms is to be aware and know what to look for when a guy is pulling a gun so you can take cover. Learn to read the body language of people and in a more esoteric sense you must learn to read the intentions of every person you meet.
Avoid crowds on Fridays which is when much Muslim mob violence happens (after Friday prayers) and avoid protests, marches or congregating in places where you’re an easy target, like outdoor cafes. Be aware of people casing places you go, and understand that not all Muslims are Arabs and many Anarchists or other radicals will work with Muslims when given the chance. The Aryan Nations works with Jihadists, and Tim McVeigh’s partner was known to pal around with Jihadists from the Philippines.
The lone wolf terrorist is dangerous, but do not underestimate how insidious Jihadism is in the American Muslim community. Gang assaults and mob beatings are common in Europe and will become common here as the Muslim population becomes more radicalized. Muslim sex slave rings of the type we find in Islamized Britain are already being uncovered here, and that means European style “no-go” zones are only a few police lay-offs away.
Get ready.
