The Digg mob was at it again.
Over 1,400 Diggs (and counting) for a 2002 ACLU piece on the Patriot Act and domestic terrorism. Time warp, anyone?
Not only did most Diggbats neglect to notice the 2002 date, but some are so out of touch that they appear to believe that the Patriot Act itself is a new development. They also fail to understand the language of the Act, making the grossly inaccurate assumption that it could easily be used to label a peaceful protester as a domestic terrorist.
Boing Boing also got in on the action, pointing out that under the “new” law, “‘Terrorism’ is now officially meaningless: as far as the PATRIOT Act is concerned, if you do anything the government doesn’t like, you’re a terrorist.”
The Digg commenting frenzy included too many choice quotes to mention, but I can’t resist reprinting a few. Here’s some “expert analysis” of Section 802 of the Patriot Act:
Wow. Our politicians are terrorists by their own definitions.
Well there you go the only terrorist i know of is are own government.
I’m no lawyer but kinda sounds like protesting = terrorism.
With the language in that bill just tripping and bumping into a cop while holding a protest sign is good for a life sentence.
Most of the 200+ comments exhibit the same sort of flawed logic and disturbing lack of reading comprehension. It’s no wonder Little Green Footballs, Hot Air, and The Jawa Report get their stories buried – too much accuracy.
