The celebration of the storming of the Bastille on July 14th was as “festive” as you’d think it was. From 20 Minutes translated by GalliaWatch:
Two hundred sixty-six vehicles were burned and 100 people arrested in France on the night of July 13-14, it was announced on Saturday by the National Police.
By 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning, the same source indicated, 266 vehicles were torched (versus 254 the same night in 2006), 195 of them in the region of Ile-de-France.
In all, 100 persons were questioned, 89 of them in Ile-de-France, of whom 46 were arrested, 43 in Ile-de-France.
At the same time, four police officers were slightly injured.
The acts committed entailed primarily the throwing of pyrotechnical devices, hurled deliberately at the police or the public.
Among the most serious incidents was that of a little girl 6 years old, wounded by a firecracker that had been thrown in the direction of the city officials of Romainville (Seine-Saint-Denis), the same source indicated. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Europe is doomed.
I predict that, when Europeans finally figure out what is going on, they will surprise us all, and Europe will come out of this stronger than before.
Maybe. But Mark Steyn makes some good points about demographics. Who’s going to be left to fight for the casue of secular, liberal Europe if secular, liberal Europeans are going to be outnumbered 8-1 (I think that’s the figure) in a few decades?
I think Europe will wake up in a few years, not a few decades.
The problem is lack of leadership in the political arena.
For many decades, the US has been the de facto leader of the Free World, first against the mindless communist automatons, now against the onslaught of holy warriors. But, leadership in the White House has been seriously lacking since Bush 41 left office.
I think it will take a US President with a clue.
If you recall the troubles with the seafaring mujahideen of the Barbary Coast, the way was going to have to be paved with either gold or cannonballs. It took a determined US to go and pave the way in the Mediterranean with cannonballs; later, European powers followed suit, and stood up to the Muslims of North Africa.
Here’s to a US President with brains, common sense, and a pair of cannonballs….
(Do we see any candidates out there?)
Most Bastille Days end up wit h a bit of violence. To say this sort of thing will lead to the end of Europe is nothing short of your own paranoia.
Remember that there are over 700 “sensitive uraban areas” in France, basically no-go zones for the police. France is slowly being torn asunder, and Europe will follow if they contiunue to follow the E.U. into certain Dhimmitude.
