With the massive amounts of violence at the Republican National Convention stories like this take on a more sinister tone. How far have politics devolved in our country? Violence by radical leftists is becoming more and more common so I suspect whatever this guy had in mind included causing mass casualties:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man is under arrest in Washington after an improvised explosive device, a rifle and some ammunition were allegedly found in his jeep, Capitol Police said Friday.
The man stopped to ask police for directions near the Capitol building at about 11 a.m. EDT Friday, at the intersection of 2nd and Independence Avenue Southeast, according to Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.
The officer responding noticed a rifle case on the car seat and inspected the jeep, discovering the IED, rifle and ammunition. A canine unit was enlisted to help.
“They’ve all been rendered safe right now because they’re in the custody of Capitol Police,” Schneider told reporters at a briefing Friday.
The officer took the unidentified man into custody; the vehicle is still being searched.
Library of Congress employees near where the jeep was stopped were evacuated, and several roads are closed while police continue their investigation.
Schneider said that it wasn’t clear what the man intended to do with the cache of weapons.
The IED is on its way to the FBI facility in Quantico, Va., for analysis.

Check out the comments on that video’s YouTube page, there are literally dozens of people claiming it’s fascist for police to arrest a man with a bomb and a rifle in the middle of a city full of politicians. Never mind that it’s a city has no gun range or places to hunt, thus making the carrying of a rifle suspicious. These people seem upset that the man was stopped before being able to carry out what he had in mind.
In the past few years we’ve seen soldiers shot by leftists, G.O.P offices threatened by armed thugs, Republicans students attacked at home by leftists, and leftist organizations attempting to incite riots. Less than a week ago another man planned to bomb the Xcel center as Republican delegates were brutally attacked by “peace” protesters. The left in this country is increasingly radical and violent as the idea of “protesting” has morphed to cover acts of mayhem few rational people would think the First Amendment would cover.
Now for some being caught with an IED in the nation’s Capitol, even I dare say setting one off, is a legitimate act of protest. Our country has never been closer to conflict since the end of the Civil War than it is now.
Hmm, I really wonder why the ACLU, NLG and other “legal” groups whom often cater to these radical thugs are against the Patriot Act. Normal Americans whom are law bidding would have no problem.
It’s rather all the crazy anti-American people whom have been attacking the Patriot Act as a “fascist” decree, sounding more like an open Marxist than someone whom is concern about civil liberties. Real civil libertarians will not want to defend people whom are involved in these brand of criminal, terrorist acts.

That’s how these clowns roll. They can’t have it both ways. On the one hand they are against the average citizen owning guns to protect themselves and on the other they are against the police being able to enforce laws.
The logical conclusion would be that only people of their political ilk should be armed to impose their will on the rest of society.

Exactly. They want their Second Amendment rights just long enough to exercise their perverted definition of First Amendment rights, often with the goal of banning Second Amendment rights.
