Well, since most are of European descent you could absolutely make that argument, which is tempting given the “Go back to Europe, Gringo” sentiment among pro-illegal immigration activists. This video, in two parts, makes the argument that race, culture ethnicity and nationality have been hopelessly blended together in most people’s minds and tries to clarify things. Unfortunately they take a ham fisted approach which will leave many viewers wanting to disagree with an otherwise solid argument.
Even if you are turned off by the presentation, stick with it. It is so far the most comprehensive case made against Latinos being classified “brown people” as I’ve seen. Language warning ahead, and frankly the presenter is obnoxious and bigoted enough that you’ll want to watch this alone:

I haven’t watched the videos yet, but one of my pet peeves is when people use language as the primary indicator of ethnicity. Sorry, but speaking Spanish (or being descended from those who do) doesn’t make someone “browner” than other people of European descent.
I agree with what he had to say. I do not considered myself a racist but for sure I am not a political correctness person. Sometimes people gets pissed off when people tell it like it is. But what he said made sense and I do agree with his comment about the ” ? American” mentality. True is many of us have been mixed with the two or more of the four races for instance I have white, black and native that I can trace. I am just a mixture here 🙂 ……. So I don’t think you will find a pure race anymore.
Exactly. The whole La Raza ideology seems too close to Hitler’s Aryan thesis where he started claiming Germans settled all of Europe, built the pyramids etc. But I guess it’s hard to build a political movement around the Nationality of someones parents, as opposed to their “race”
