At the most basic level, the American economy is based on how American’s feel about the economy. It’s about how much you decide to save, and how much you decide to borrow and spend.

So when we start hearing news about a recession and concerns about the economy, those “jitters” are self-fulfilling. The media itself causes jitters, and can cause a recession to happen when there is no “real” reason for it.

Exactly. The media is causing the drops in consumer confidence that is driving our recession. Rich media elites have enough money to tank the economy and not feel it, so as long as it hurts Bush and the Republicans they’ll continue to manipulate the numbers and go for broke. No pun intended.

Just one more reason to cheer on the dinosaur media’s inevitable collapse.
