Maggie’s Farm pointed me to this piece at Dust My Broom which features the following video exposing the quasi-religious nature of violent eco-terror group Earth First. Not sure where it’s from or I’d post more but this short clip makes the point nicely:

I’ve long believed that eco-terror groups combine the worst aspects of religious fervor with a post modern anti-human philosophy that embraces destruction not just as a political tool, but as a sacrament. There move to murder is as inevitable as the tides itself, as generation after generation of Earth First! members become more radicalized and less inhibited.
Dust My Broom also has a great little article on how and why Earth First! was founded by radical environmentalist David Bromer. Earth First! of course gave birth to the Earth Liberation Front which will no doubt spawn more violent groups, all according to Bromer’s plan:
Friends of the Earth were created as a spin off from the Sierra Club by former executive director David Brower . His thinking was that the people that are easily named extreme make the people who were extreme seem suddenly reasonable (Confessions of an Eco-Warrior). It was an ingenious use of the Durkheim Constant which notes that as behavior worsens, the community adjusts its standards so that conduct once thought reprehensible is no longer deemed so.
In this context David Brower didn’t think the Sierra Club was radical enough for his idealism so he branched out to form a more radical group to make the Sierra Club seem more normal and ultimately acceptable to the general populace (see Green Party leader and former Sierra Clubber Elizabeth May for a taste of the experience).
With Americans more focused on Islamic Imperialism and the terrorism that foreshadows it, our home grown extremists can often go unnoticed. The above should serve as a reminder that western civilization is threatened not just by Wahabbism, but post-modern fanatic movements which can be just as destructive.
