Sicko Fun Fact: England’s NHS Bans Life Prolonging Cancer Drug … Because it Costs too Much

This is what a “free” health care plan will look like in America if the left gets its way. From The Daily Mail:

Thousands of lung cancer patients are to be denied a life-prolonging drug branded too expensive by the NHS “rationing” watchdog.

But the treatment will continue to be given to Scottish patients.

Guidance being issued to NHS doctors claims Tarceva is not a good use of “scarce resources”, by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

But angry campaigners said it was the latest example of medical “apartheid” which means the Health Service is providing dramatically different care on either side of the border.

Private medical insurers such as Bristol-based WPA Provident also pay for Tarceva for lung cancer sufferers which costs around £1,700 a month.

Tarceva is one of a new generation of targeted drugs that attack only cancer cells and are tolerated much better than traditional chemotherapy.

Drug makers Roche is planning to appeal, saying the bill per patient is only around £1,000 more per patient than alternative medication with debilitating side effects that will have to be used instead.

John Melville, Roche’s UK pharmaceutical general manager, said: “We used to talk about postcode prescribing.

“This is passport prescribing, where Tarceva is available in all of Western Europe, except England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“It is unusual for Roche to appeal a decision so vociferously but we are convinced, along with a majority of other countries, that Tarceva is cost-effective

“This negative decision clearly demonstrates a disconnect between the Department of Health’s Cancer Reform Strategy, which calls for a world class cancer service, and the reality inflicted on lung cancer patients by NICE.”

Apart from Tarceva, there are several other cancer drugs approved in Scotland but denied south of the border.

It is estimated that 2,300 patients with non-small cell lung cancer in England each year could benefit from Tarceva, a once-daily tablet.

Patients get an extra three months of life on average – it increases one-year survival rates by 41 per cent.

The difference here is that rich white liberal areas will no doubt get access to these sorts of drugs while poor areas, “Red States” and the Black community will be shafted.

But isn’t that what the left wants? I’ll quote myself on this, as unseemly as that sort of thing is, in a post about the left and their attempt to cajole the country into giving welfare benefits to a well to do White family:

More entitlements for undeserving Whites has been a staple of White Nationalist ideology for decades, the doctrine of Communitarianism which is popular with these folks; perhaps their newly forged close ties with the nutroots has given the the idea of a Whites-only welfare state new life, and luckily they already have a spokesfamily.

Degenerate Truther Attacks Wheel-Chair Bound Teen in NYC!

Of course his cretinous truther brethren are calling this a conspiracy. The only conspiracy here is them rallying to the defense of a depraved monster with lies and threats. From The N.Y. Post:

A man heckling First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna outside the 92nd Street Y was arrested after he punched a wheelchair-bound girl whose parents has told him to shut up, authorities said yesterday. German Talis, 22, was shouting obscenities at the Bushes, who were leaving the building Tuesday, when he crossed paths with Wendy and John Lovetro and their daughter Maureen, 18, who has cerebral palsy.

They had been in the audience to hear the Bushes talk about their children’s book, “Read All About It.”

“He began yelling about Iraq and Iran at Jenna Bush. She was waving at the crowd. I told the guy, ‘What are you doing? Shut up. This is about a child and books,’ ” said John Lovetro. “He was unperturbed. I said, ‘Get out of here! You’re being a moron!’ ”

The next thing he knew, Talis was allegedly punching Maureen – a fan of the first lady since meeting her in 2004.

“I heard my daughter hysterical yelling, ‘He’s hitting me!’ ” said Wendy Lovetro.

“He punched her on the shoulder blades, but that wasn’t enough,” she said.

“My husband pushed the wheelchair away from him and he reached beyond my husband and began pounding my daughter in the thigh.”

The two men fought as the president’s family drove off. Cops broke them up and busted Talis on charges of assault and resisting arrest.

Maureen was not seriously injured.

German Talis is a member of 9/11 “Truth” group We Are Change, who are claiming that German(A.K.A. Gary) was the victim of an elaborate set up by the father of the girl. To prove their point they posted a video of “Gary” being unreasonable and acting high/crazy/retarded before the incident by hassling Secret Service agents just trying to do their job and go home.

Watch the video (Courtesy Michelle Malkin) and tell me if the story Gary’s friend is telling syncs up with the quick couple of seconds where Gary freaks out in a crowd:

One problem with the woman’s story is that the video shows the brawl breaking out while the crowd is still gathered, while her story is that the crowd dispersed and the father of Maureen basically pushed her into poor innocent Gary.

Watch it again. How do you explain the incongruity? The woman in the video either didn’t actually see the fight and is presenting herself as a witness anyway or she did see the fight and is lying to cover for her friend.

Added bonus, toward the end of the video some truther getting arrested states he “isn’t trying to be condescending or derogatory” to a cop after lecturing the poor bastard with a speech so sanctimonious Jimmy Swaggart would cringe if he heard it. He’s got to be kidding. Are truthers so out of touch that they don’t understand how to talk to people without being condescending or derogatory?

Short answer, Yes they are.

Scroll through the We Are Change site and you’ll see that the “activists” in the group tend to take a lot of beatings. Hmmm. It’s almost like they provoke people by doing outrageous things. Things like hitting disabled children maybe?

On the heels of the “peace” protester assault on a family this seems an ominous development in America’s already heated political discourse. What’s next for the radical left, a coup attempt?

Not by Fire but by Ice: The Earth Entering a New Ice Age

Robert W. Felix is ahead of his time, and his book Not by Fire but by Ice has received too little attention. Felix challenges the faith based science of global warming with a provocative thesis that shows it is more likely that an ice age will be destroying civilization.

Now The Australian brings us news that Felix just might be right, and we may be entering an ice age now:

Disconcerting as it may be to true believers in global warming, the average temperature on Earth has remained steady or slowly declined during the past decade, despite the continued increase in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide, and now the global temperature is falling precipitously.

All four agencies that track Earth’s temperature (the Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain, the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, the Christy group at the University of Alabama, and Remote Sensing Systems Inc in California) report that it cooled by about 0.7C in 2007. This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record and it puts us back where we were in 1930. If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over.

There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence that 2007 was exceptionally cold. It snowed in Baghdad for the first time in centuries, the winter in China was simply terrible and the extent of Antarctic sea ice in the austral winter was the greatest on record since James Cook discovered the place in 1770.

It is generally not possible to draw conclusions about climatic trends from events in a single year, so I would normally dismiss this cold snap as transient, pending what happens in the next few years.

This is where SOHO comes in. The sunspot number follows a cycle of somewhat variable length, averaging 11 years. The most recent minimum was in March last year. The new cycle, No.24, was supposed to start soon after that, with a gradual build-up in sunspot numbers.

It didn’t happen. The first sunspot appeared in January this year and lasted only two days. A tiny spot appeared last Monday but vanished within 24 hours. Another little spot appeared this Monday. Pray that there will be many more, and soon.

The reason this matters is that there is a close correlation between variations in the sunspot cycle and Earth’s climate. The previous time a cycle was delayed like this was in the Dalton Minimum, an especially cold period that lasted several decades from 1790.

Northern winters became ferocious: in particular, the rout of Napoleon’s Grand Army during the retreat from Moscow in 1812 was at least partly due to the lack of sunspots.

That the rapid temperature decline in 2007 coincided with the failure of cycle No.24 to begin on schedule is not proof of a causal connection but it is cause for concern.

It is time to put aside the global warming dogma, at least to begin contingency planning about what to do if we are moving into another little ice age, similar to the one that lasted from 1100 to 1850.

There is no doubt that the next little ice age would be much worse than the previous one and much more harmful than anything warming may do. There are many more people now and we have become dependent on a few temperate agricultural areas, especially in the US and Canada. Global warming would increase agricultural output, but global cooling will decrease it.

In other words, get ready for more starvation including here in America. The sunspot cycle may not be convincing to the disciples of the Goreacle but for those of us with an open mind it’s food for thought. Combine that with the quick history lesson The Australian gives us and a new debate about climate change should be on everyone’s agenda:

The bleak truth is that, under normal conditions, most of North America and Europe are buried under about 1.5km of ice. This bitterly frigid climate is interrupted occasionally by brief warm interglacials, typically lasting less than 10,000 years.

The interglacial we have enjoyed throughout recorded human history, called the Holocene, began 11,000 years ago, so the ice is overdue. We also know that glaciation can occur quickly: the required decline in global temperature is about 12C and it can happen in 20 years.

The author points out that should the overdue ice age come back in force most industrialized nations would be annihilated and refugees would flood warmer environs. War, famine and pestilence would follow.

The Peaceful left: War Protesters Savagely Beat Iraq War Veteran and his Family

Dan Maloney of the N.Y.G.O.E filed this report that should prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the supposed “peace movement” is nothing more than a collection of anti-America nihilists with violent Communist groups pulling the stings. From the Gathering of Eagles website:

Edinboro, PA, Apr. 22

For the second time in as many weeks, an Iraq War Veteran and his family held a Support the Troops rally across the street from the weekly “peace” protest in this college town. This week the true nature of the ‘peace’ activists was revealed for all to see. When the veteran’s 14 year old son crossed the street to videotape the protesters and their signs, the protesters became agitated and began harassing the boy. The right to record video in any public venue is long established in law and any attempt to interfere with that right is a violation of civil rights.

Seeing the escalating tension across the street, the veteran and his wife crossed over, leaving their three youngest children on the other side for safety while they went to retrieve their eldest son. Two of the female ‘peace’ protesters then attacked the veteran’s wife. When the veteran pulled one of those attackers off his wife he was jumped by four or five of the ‘peace’ people and knocked to the ground where they held him while beating him and smashing his eyeglasses.

The son pulled the remaining attacker off his mother, but the attacker managed to get in one last kick to his mother’s head with her boot. She then punched the son in his face while his mother called the police.

This all took place at a busy intersection, the mother had been knocked into the street in bumper to bumper traffic. People were visible in the windows of shops and a bar nearby. One might think someone would intervene to put a stop to the assault. One would be wrong. In a scene eerily reminiscent of the Kitty Genovese tragedy in New York, the bystanders and passers-by refused to stand up to the ‘peace’ thugs. Displaying a craven cowardice one would not have expected in middle America they would rather go on their way thankful that it was not them being assaulted. It was NOT them, today, but what about tomorrow?

When the police arrived they reviewed the video of the incident and then, astonishingly, refused to make any arrests, even when one of the ‘peace’ thugs spit in the face of on the 14 year old boy right in front of the police and they did nothing! Officers, that is an assault! I don’t know where or how they train police in Edinboro but they obviously need some refresher courses!

One of the police was very aggressive toward the veteran and his family as if they were the attackers!

Dan goes on to remind us of the veteran who was shot by an anti-war protester last 4th of July and the infamous Times Square bombing.

Via Gateway Pundit you can read an email from the woman who was attacked at This Ain’t Hell. The email details the injuries of the victims and the police inaction, a trend it seems as we are reminded by John Lilyea that Skye from Midnight Blue was attacked by a male protester at a “peace” rally and a group of Freepers were assaulted in D.C. at a protest. All of which were witnessed by police.

The man that slapped Skye twice was college professor John Meicht. One would expect better from an educated man but this case shows expecting civilized behavior from those who spend their lives on a college campus is a sure way to complete disappointment.

The peaceful left is a myth. The left is a collection of miscreants who hate this country not for any real reason, but because they need something to hate. A 14-year-old boy and his mother assaulted in front of her three other children! Where is the outrage?
